Standish Hartstonge raised the stone in 1663 for Elizabeth, his wife and daughter of Francis Jermy of Gonnton. Seven of their eleven children still lived when the words were cut, a small triumph recorded in Roman letters. The north transept holds that much of a marriage: love, loss, children naming, and a man proud enough to tell the city.

17th century graveslab in St. Mary's Cathedral (LI005-017015-) described in the Urban Survey of Limerick (Bradley et. al. 1989, 322-3) as following; ‘Wall Memorial. Standish Hartstonge 1663. The slab, in the north transept, has an incised Roman lettered inscription: THIS SMAL MONVMENT WAS ERECTED/ BY STANDISH HARSTONGE ESQE RECO/ RDER OF THIS CITTY IN MEMORY/ OF HIS DEARE/ WIFE ELIZABETH YE/ DAVGHTER OF FRANCIS IERMY OF GON/ TON IN THE COVNTY OF NORFFOLKE ESQ BY ALICE HIS WIFE THE DAVGHTER OF SR AN/ THONY IRBY OF BOSTON KNT WHO DYED YE/ 5TH OF IULY 1663 AND LYETH BVRIED IN THIS CHVRCH WHO HAD ISSVE ELEAVEN/ CHILDREN WHEREOF 7 ARE NOW LIVEING/ 1677 Dims: H. 0.72m W. 0.6m T. 0.05m (FitzGerald 1910, 126)'.
