What is recorded here
Cartronmacmanus holds an unclassified megolithic tomb, meaning its exact age and structure still evade definition. In County Mayo, uncertainty is not a failure but a feature. The stones may have marked a burial, a boundary or a gift to the dead, yet no clear record forces them into one shape. What is known is that the place still keeps its own counsel.
The Archaeological Survey of Ireland (ASI) is in the process of providing information on all monuments on The Historic Environment Viewer (HEV).
