Megalithic tomb in Cahernagollum

Found in cairn, during quarrying. Large centrally placed cist (H 1.3m), orientated E-W. Two large side stones remain, one inclined towards the other, and are overlain by a capstone (L 1.2m; Wth 1.5m; T 0.3m). No burials or grave goods were recorded. Portal dolmen; dates to the Neolithic period (c. 4000–2500 BCE). Its construction reflects early megalithic traditions in Ireland, though its lack of burials suggests it may have had a symbolic or ceremonial function.
