Megalithic tomb in Ballinteean

Megalithic tomb

What is recorded here

Nobody knows which stones the unnamed dolmen used or whether it still stands beneath the soil of Ballintean. What is certain is that someone marked the townland on an 1838 survey, believing a chamberd tomb lay hidden there. It may have been buried, removed or misremembered, but the claim still belongs to the land.
This record is based on a handwritten annotation, ‘Dolmen’, written within the bounds of Ballintean townland on an OPW copy of the 1838 OS 6-inch map. There is no description of it on record, and no megalithic remains are known within the townland. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 7 May 2019

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
