MEGALITHIC TOMB: CLOGHLEA or GIANTS GRAVE in Killee

MEGALITHIC TOMB: CLOGHLEA or GIANTS GRAVE

What is recorded here

Cloghlea is a megalithic tomb in Killee, County Fermanagh, built during the PREHISTORIC period when people moved large stones to mark death, memory or ownership of the land. The name Giants Grave suggests that later listeners believed the chamber belonged to something larger than an ordinary human. That much is still visible: a place where stone was arranged to keep an absent body company long after the hands that carried it had forgotten the weight.
The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as MEGALITHIC TOMB: CLOGHLEA or GIANTS GRAVE. Recorded period: PREHISTORIC. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
Megalithic tomb, dating to the Neolithic period. It is part of a broader tradition of megalithic funerary monuments in Ireland, reflecting early communal burial practices and social organisation.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
