Megalithic structure (present location) in Unknown Townland

Megalithic structure (present location)

What is recorded here

Unknown Townland is a lost place and the chamber is a traveller: men dug it from a sandpit near Chapelizod, moved its stones into Dublin's Zoological Gardens, and a human skeleton came out of the tomb to prove it had not been empty. It still stands despite being carried, which is either arrogance or love depending on who is asking. The dead person never chose the move, yet the chamber continues to hold something because so many people believed it should.
The present megalithic structure which stands in the Zoological Gardens was originally uncovered in a sandpit close to Chapelizod not far from Knockmary in the Phoenix Park. A human skeleton was found within the tomb (Borlase 1897, 381, 2; Poe 1904, 5-6). Compiled by: Geraldine Stout Upload date: 28 September 2011
