Cragballyconoal and Poulbaun hold one of three cromlechs named by Westropp in 1894, yet no marker remains for it to point at. In that absence the stones become a rumour: large, old, buried under grass or forgotten by the men who last handled them. What is missing is not the end of the story, but the reason the story still moves.
One of three ‘cromlechs’ listed by Westropp (1894, 287) in Cragballyconoal. The monument is unlocated and the reference may pertain to a wedge tomb in the adjacent townland of Poulbaun (CL005-160027-).
