Megalithic structure in Carrowmore (carbury By.)

At Carrowmore passage tomb cemetery. This megalithic structure is indicated on the 1837 OS6-inch map as circle of dots, but is not shown on later map editions. It consisted of a boulder circle with a central construction, and all above ground remains were destroyed in the 19th century. In 1837 Petrie recorded ‘Little remains: six large stones of the circle and the cromleac only survive. Rest recently blasted or removed. Human bones found within this tomb.' (Stokes 1868, 247).
