Maurice George Moore was born at Moore Hall in County Mayo on August 10, 1854, becoming the second son of George Henry Moore and Mary Blake. He later joined the Connaught Rangers, fought in the Xhosa Wars, Anglo-Zulu War and Second Boer War, and rose to lieutenant-colonel before dying in Dublin in 1939.
