Mary Hayden

Mary Hayden was born in Dublin in 1862 and helped write the standard Irish textbook known as Hayden and Moonan, which remained in classrooms into the 1960s. She lived an active life of teaching, travel and campaigning for women's rights, drawing on her liberal education and friendships with leading cultural figures. Her work continued until shortly before her death in 1942, leaving a lasting mark on Irish history and feminist thought.
