Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Margaret's Law, Haylie as Chambered Cairn (neolithic). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Neolithic chambered cairn; dates to the earlier part of the Neolithic period in Scotland, approximately 3500–2500 BCE. It represents a significant prehistoric funerary and ceremonial site, typical of the chambered cairn tradition in Orkney and northern Scotland.
