Man-made underground passage in Rossacoosane

The location of this Man-made underground passage, on the lower SE slopes of Knockanaskill mountain overlooking Kenmare Bay to S, is marked by an area of dense overgrowth. The Man-made underground passage was accessible within living memory and reputedly consisted of three stone-built chambers roofed with slabs (local information). Some of the lintels were removed in recent years and a 4.1m long depression, aligned N-S, may mark the location of a chamber or passage. A lintel, 1.7m long, remains in situ at one end of this depression. This site is not marked on the OS maps. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J.
