Man-made underground passage in Robeenard

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Robeenard holds a buried passage linking two levelled raths, a hidden bridge between lost grounds. The tradition images human hands carving through earth, perhaps for trade, flight or ceremony. Both raths have vanished above, but the claim of a tunnel remains, suggesting the landscape still hides a made road beneath its grass.
In a possible rath (MA111-036----), now levelled. There is a local tradition that there is a Man-made underground passage in the rath, which was said to extend N towards another rath (MA111-035----), also levelled. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 21 December 2022
