Rathduane still holds a hollow six and a half metres from the ringfort bank, a lost passage hidden beneath the earth. A stone rests inside the depression like a marker left behind when the way collapsed. People may have dug through solid ground to reach another part of the settlement, then the earth took the route back. The hole remains small enough to overlook and deep enough to remind that the landscape once had more than one layer.

In SE quadrant of ringfort (8558), 6.5m from bank. Hollow, in which rests a stone, may indicate position of collapsed Man-made underground passage.
