Man-made underground passage in Pollagh (dunkellin By.)

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

No one knows the exact year the passage closed or the name of the last person who walked it. That uncertainty is not a gap, but the shape of the place: a hidden room behind an ordinary Galway field, waiting to be remembered.
According to McCaffrey (1952, 202, no. 116) there is 'a tradition in the neighbourhood of a Man-made underground passage in the centre' of the cashel (GA103-163----). No visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 14 December 2017
