Man-made underground passage in Moylough

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Man-made underground passage in Moylough is a man-made underground passage in Moylough, County Sligo, Ireland. Local tradition mentions a cave in the rath, and a shallow hollow measuring 3 metres by 3 metres and 0.1 metre deep sits immediately north of the rath centre. That hollow may mark where a passage chamber collapsed.
According to local information, there is a tradition of a 'cave' in a rath (SL038-112001-). A hollow (3m x 3m; D 0.1m) immediately N of the centre of the rath may indicate the position of a collapsed Man-made underground passage chamber. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Sligo' compiled by Ursula Egan, Elizabeth Byrne, Mary Sleeman with Sheila Ronan and Connie Murphy (Dublin Stationery Office, 2005). Date of upload: 18 January 2008
