Under the ringfort at Loughane East in County Cork, a hidden earthen chamber waits in darkness. Caulfield measured its narrow arch in 1866 and found charcoal and bone fragments inside, proving the passage served human life before disappearing from common memory. The chamber remains small enough to exclude most people, yet large enough to hold breath, shadow and forgotten ritual. It is not a decorative feature or a modern invention. It is a buried room that resisted forgetting, preserved under law and buried under soil.

In ringfort (CO062-135001-). Caulfield (1866, 292) discovered a small earthen chamber c. '2ft 11in high' and '2 feet wide at the part where it formed an arch'. Debris from the chamber contained 'charcoal and small fragments of bones'. No visible surface trace. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
