Man-made underground passage in Knocknagoul

Discovered during ploughing in 1983; investigated by R.M. Cleary (1989, 26). Two earth-cut chambers joined by creepway. Chamber 1: roughly rectangular (L 3.4m; Wth 1.6m; long axis N-S); not possible to estimate height; collapsed construction shaft at S end; blocked creepway midway W side, second creepway S end of E side to second chamber. Chamber 2: rectangular (3.4m; Wth 1.5m; H 1m; long axis NE-SW); SW end filled with loose stones and soil, probably from collapsed construction shaft; floor roughly paved. Investigator noted that blocked creepway in chamber 1 may lead to further chamber(s) or to original entrance. Fulacht fiadh (CO072-07900-1) c. 35m to W.
