What is recorded here
Knockavota holds a forgotten underground passage inside an ancient fort. In 1942 the passage was still open on Matthew Shea's land, yet even that much has faded from local memory. The earth may still cover a hole cut by human hands, waiting beneath grass and stone for someone curious enough to look.
An open Man-made underground passage was recorded in 1942 in the interior of a fort on Matthew Shea's land (MCKFC vol. 1, 303). Its precise location is not known.
