What is recorded here

Kilnalappa holds an eight-by-five-metre rectangular hollow inside a Galway ringfort, perhaps a buried passage or perhaps a modern rubbish pit. Neary called it spoon-shaped in 1914, but measurement and doubt have replaced that pretty image. The earth keeps both possibilities alive: a hidden chamber or a forgotten dump.

Within a ringfort (GA005-072----). Neary (1914, 118, no. 35) refers to 'a spoon-shaped [sic] hollow [which] appears to indicate a dug-out Man-made underground passage'. All that is visible is a rectangular hollow (L 8m, Wth 5m), running E-W, to N of centre. However, this may be the result of modern rubbish disposal as two other areas apparently dug for this purpose were noted close by.
