Man-made underground passage in Killacoosane

In pasture, on a S-facing slope with views over rolling countryside to the mouth of Glandore Harbour. This Man-made underground passage was discovered in the early 2000s when the ground collapsed during silage cutting. The resulting opening (1.1m N-S; D 0.8m) leads down to a chamber (L c. 2m), the curving roof of which appears to have been cut from clay. The Man-made underground passage has been largely filled in for safety reasons and was inaccessible. According to local information, there are traces of a stone wall on one side. This may be a blocked-up construction shaft. There is a standing stone (CO143-045----) c. 25m to the E. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
