Man-made underground passage in Kill (clanmaurice By.)

A Man-made underground passage was discovered in the above townland in 1987, when Mary Cahill (NMI) examined it and did a rescue excavation. She found that the Man-made underground passage chamber was sub-rectangular in plan and in good condition, and measured 2.75m x 1.75m x 1.32m. A fragment of a quern stone had been used to form the lintel over the passage entrance. A fully extended young female skeleton which was laid lengthways on the floor of the Man-made underground passage was orientated E-W, the head lying to the W.
