What is recorded here

Kilbonane Church hides a man-made underground passage beneath its south wall, recorded in the 1940s but now buried under four metres of collapsed rubble. The east end still bulges outward as if pushing against forgotten weight, while the southeast corner has crumbled into a shallow mound that swallows the entrance whole. Whatever lived beneath that wall has vanished without a trace, leaving only a strained line of stone and a region of darkness no one has mapped.

In a church (KE057-078001-). In the 1940s it was recorded that the E end of the 'south wall [of the church] projects and widens showing what appears to be a Man-made underground passage leading under it' (Minutes of the Co. Kerry Field Club 1940, vol. 1, 698). The SE corner of the church has collapsed outwards, depositing a mound of rubble which obscures an area up to 4m.
