Man-made underground passage in Iskancullin

Situated in the N centre of a cashel (CL009-069002-). This Man-made underground passage (L c. 4.8m WNW-ESE; max. Wth 1.05m; max. H 1.15m) has an entrance at WNW, where rubble fills the passage. From here the Man-made underground passage extends ESE, with walls ‘of dry masonry, and the top of thin slabs’ (Westropp 1901, 286), of which six roof lintels were in place upon inspection in 1997. The passage narrows toward the ESE, until blocked by rubble. It is traceable beyond this for a further 1m to the ESE. Compiled by: Mary Tunney and Conn Herriott Date of upload: 6 April 2022
