Quarrying in 1998 broke the ridge above the Delvin River and exposed a drystone passage leading into a beehive chamber. The chamber was small enough for one person to stand beside, yet deliberate enough to show that hands had shaped the dark before the quarry came. It is gone now beneath the M1, but the stone work still proves the ground was not empty.

Local tradition records the existence of a cave in Gormanstown Demesne. In 1998 a section of drystone-built passage (H 1m; Wth 0.9m) was exposed in a quarry face. It was sited in the brow of a flattish ridge overlooking the Delvin River. The Man-made underground passage consisted of a short passage leading into a beehive chamber (Clinton 1998, 117-118).
