What is recorded here
No visible passage remains in Faha Fort/Lios na Faiche, County Kerry, Ireland. Mr Royal said one appeared in the east part of the interior a few years before the survey, then disappeared from sight. The fort still stands with a high earthen bank around a hidden, overgrown middle, as if the ground kept the tunnel back inside itself.
Faha Fort/Lios na Faiche (ringfort of the lawn). Crcular univallate rath KE014-085---- is situated in the corner of a field. The enclosing earthen bank rises to a maximum height of 4m above the fosse and 2.4m above the interior.
The interior, which is very overgrown, is at a much higher level than the surrounding land. Mr Royal, the landowner, stated that a few years ago a Man-made underground passage (KE014-085001-) was uncovered in the E sector of the interior; this is not now visible.
The above description is derived from C. Toal, ‘North Kerry Archaeological Survey’. Dingle. Brandon in association with FAS Training and Employment Authority (1995), no. 482. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
