Garranearagh preserves a man-made underground passage in the northwest quadrant of its rath, remembered through local tradition rather than formal record. The hidden tunnel suggests the fortress did more than resist invasion; it may have offered escape, storage or secret movement when storms closed the sky. That much of the structure has vanished makes the claim harder to test and more exciting to imagine.
