Derreen holds a man-made chamber inside a rath, its west entrance collapsed and its north passage blocked by falling rubble. Uncoursed walls and heavy lintels still span the dark, though the floor drops away into uncertainty. The structure remains half-hidden, waiting for someone careful enough to hear what it kept.

In a rath (KE108-010----). A collapsed entrance in the W half of the rath leads to a chamber which extends to the N. The chamber comprises side-walls (H 0.9m) of uncoursed rubble roofed with lintels (min. Wth 1.3m), some of which are in a precarious position. The floor level in the chamber appears to drop as it continues to the N. Accumulating debris, including stone from the collapsing side-walls, obscures the interior of the chamber. At the SW corner of the chamber, a possible side-chamber extends to the W. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Kerry.
