Man-made underground passage in Curragh West

In a rath (CO117-008001-). An opening (Wth 1.2m; H 0.8m) near the centre of the rath leads down into an earth-cut chamber (min. L 1.5m) with a rounded roof. This chamber is inaccessible due to a pile-up of earth dug out by badgers. Depressions and an area of collapse indicate that the Man-made underground passage runs in a SW direction for at least 12m. Local people recall crawling through this Man-made underground passage as children as far as an exit on the bank of a nearby river, c. 15m to the SE.
