What is recorded here
Broker (1934, 31) recorded, on Eugene Murphy's land, a 'gallán, lying flat beyond human memory, partly covered and hence hard to measure. Former owners tried to raise it and found some sort of cavern beneath and hence left it there'. Possibly stone was lintel of Man-made underground passage; exact location not known.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
