What is recorded here
Under Coolmoohan, a man-made passage waits in darkness, built before memory and forgotten by most. It may have hidden goods, people or prayer, but no record preserves its purpose. What is known is that it exists beneath the town, shaped by human hands and abandoned to time.
According to local information, Man-made underground passage found in 1930s, c. 350m SW of Millstreet on S side of road. Exact location not known.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
