What is recorded here

Two underground passages, one cut in earth and one built with stone, vanished from the ringfort at Lismore after Windele wrote them down in 1848. They may have led people beneath the fortress, hidden them during danger or carried water through the hill. One chamber was said to hold a stone marked with round letters, but that claim belongs to local story rather than proven fact. The passages are no longer visible, leaving the hill silent and the ringfort empty of its underground rooms.

Lismore/An Lios Mór: Circular bivallate rath KE043-134---- commands an excellent view in all directions from the S slopes of Knockavrogeen. Two Man-made underground passages (KE043-134001- & KE043-134003-) and a hut-site (KE043-134002-) were formerly visible in the interior but are no longer traceable. The 2 Man-made underground passages recorded by Windele (1848, 421) are not now visible. One was apparently earth-cut, the other stone-built, and there were 2 entrances, one in the fosse and the other in the interior of the ringfort.
