Man-made underground passage in Cloghanelinaghan

This inaccessible drystone-built Man-made underground passage, not marked on the OS maps, is located on a SE facing slope overlooking the estuary of the Ferta river. Two openings to it are located on the NW and NE sides of a slightly raised, roughly circular area which measures 17m in diameter. Adjacent to the NW ope is a 1.7m long section of well-built walling which may represent the remains of an associated hut. Both openings to the Man-made underground passage are blocked by collapsed material, but the side-walls of a chamber or passage are visible through that at NE; these are carefully built and corbel slightly just below the roofing lintels.
