Man-made underground passage in Carnacop

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

Situated at the summit of Carnacop Hill. Reid (1823, 7-8fn) records the discovery in 1805 of a passage and beehive chamber 'close to a grassy hill or artificial construction’, perhaps the enclosure (ME012-006----), upon an eminence which overlooks the adjacent country. There is no evidence of an underground structure at the enclosure. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
