Under the rath in Bawnlahan, a man-made passage waited for people who knew where to look. It had an opening and could be entered, but by 2001 dense growth had hidden the entrance from everyone who came without that knowledge. The earth did not lose the passage; it stopped answering careless hands.

According to local information, there is a Man-made underground passage in a rath (CO150-078001-) in Bawnlahan. It had an opening into it and was accessible in the past. This opening could not be found in 2001 though parts of the rath were covered with dense overgrowth at the time. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
