Man-made underground passage in Ballylosky

Man-made underground passage

What is recorded here

No trace of the man-made underground passage in Ballylosky survives because a hospital extension buried it. It lay close to Kilbride Burial Ground, where the dead still rest above the forgotten route. The building swallowed the passage, not with malice but with the ordinary hunger of progress. What was hidden beneath bricks may have served the living, the dead, or both.
No trace of this Man-made underground passage which lay under an extension to the hospital now survives. It was situated close to 'Kilbride Burial Ground' (DG011-037). The above description was derived from the 'Archaeological Survey of County Donegal. A description of the field antiquities of the County from the Mesolithic Period to the 17th century.' Compiled by: Brian Lacey with Eamon Cody, Claire Cotter, Judy Cuppage, Noel Dunne, Vincent Hurley, Celie O'Rahilly, Paul Walsh and Seán Ó Nualláin (Lifford: Donegal County Council, 1983). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated. Date of upload: 22 September 2008
