Man-made underground passage in Ballyganner North

Located in the SW quadrant of the interior of a cashel (CL009-103----), this Man-made underground passage (L 9m) comprises an L-shaped passage and chamber. From its northernmost traceable end, an unroofed section of the passage (L 2m; Wth 0.9m; D 0.7m) is aligned NW-SE. It then turns and is aligned NE-SW (L 5.2m; Wth 1.3m); two in situ roof lintels survive at the bend and a number of collapsed or slipping lintels are visible in the S section. This passage then widens into a chamber (L 1.8m; 1.55m; Wth 1.55m; max. H 1.2m). Its side and back walls are corbelled and it is roofed with two lintels. Bedrock is visible at the base of the long walls of the chamber. A possible trapezoidal structure (CL009-100003-) is visible to the W of the Man-made underground passage.
