What is recorded here
Ahane Lower hides a man-made passage beneath its ringfort, said to stretch toward Abha Mhor. No surface trace remains, yet the claim survives from the 1930s. The earth may still hold a dark tunnel linking two places, waiting for someone brave enough to dig.
In ringfort (CO038-004---). Broker (1937, 51) noted a 'passage' in this fort 'said to go thence to Abha Mhor'. No visible surface trace.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 4: North Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2000). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
