This plaque commerorates the 150th Anniversary of the formation of the Robin Hood Rifles, Nottingham's original Volunteer Militia, who first mustered on the East Terrace of the Castle under the command of Major John White on the 30th May 1859.
Major Jonathan White was a military officer who commanded the Robin Hood Rifles, Nottingham's original Volunteer Militia, which played a significant role in local defence during the 19th century. The militia's formation in 1854 marked an important moment in Nottingham's civic and military history, reflecting growing local pride and preparedness.
