Mahee Castle stands ruined on Mahee Island beside Comber, a small rectangular tower said to have been built in 1570 by Captain Browne. Its north-west door still holds a drawbar socket and murder-hole, while vaulted rooms below suggest either a secure boat bay or merely a storeroom. The upper floors have collapsed, but the surviving walls and bawn cut into the hillside preserve the sharp defensive purpose of an English soldier’s island stronghold.
