Maggie Horncastle capsized in September 1874 and drifted bottom-up onto the Borve shore, killing all six crew before fragments revealed her name. The wooden schooner had left Liverpool bound for Sydney when the Atlantic gave her back to Barra sand. That sudden loss still belongs to the dunes, waiting for someone to imagine the last hours spent falling through dark water.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Maggie Horncastle: Borve, Bernera, Atlantic as Schooner (19th Century). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1km. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
