The official built-heritage record describes a three-storey rounded stone tower with a three-gun battery, a rock-cut ditch and a former drawbridge. It was one of six coastal batteries built around Lough Swilly and was later changed into a private home.
Macamish Fort is a 19th-century defensive structure, not an early-medieval fairy fort, and was part of a series of coastal batteries built for military purposes. It has no known connection to traditional fairy fort folklore or early-medieval history.
The official record says the fort is now a private home. Do not enter without the owner's permission.
