What is recorded here
Mabel Sharman Crawford was born in County Dublin on 3 June 1820 into a household where her parents wore both family names, marking her entry into a world that refused ordinary boundaries. She travelled through Tuscany and Algeria with a notebook in hand, translating distant streets into books while famine memories sharpened her judgement of everywhere she saw. Her life moved from Irish birth to English death in 1912, but the distance between those points is smaller than her reach, because she carried observation, compassion and defiance into every room she entered.
