M.S.

In a grassy verge on the E side of a local road. Named ‘M.S.’ on the 1933 edition of the OS 6-inch map, this milestone (max. H 0.8m; Wth 0.30m at front, 0.46m at rear; D 0.36m) consists of a well-dressed trapezoidal-shaped limestone pillar with flat even faces and a narrow chamfer to the front margins. The crown, upper part of the front margins and part of the upper front face are heavily spalled. The original inscription probably read: ‘11 from Galway’ but due to weathering it now reads: --/Fro-/Galwa- (O’Sullivan 2021, No. 7).
