Luke Kelly

Luke Kelly was born on Sheriff Street in Dublin in 1940, the son of a man who survived the Bachelor's Walk massacre and sang Robeson spirituals at home. That lineage of wound and music likely shaped the boy who left for England, worked steel, and returned to found the Dubliners. Kelly carried working-class memory into folk song, giving ordinary life a voice large enough to cross borders.
