Louise Gavan Duffy died in Dublin in 1969 after founding Ireland's first Gaelscoil in 1917 and standing inside the General Post Office during the 1916 Easter Rising. She carried a French childhood, an Irish political birth and a women's suffrage fire into rooms where most people would have kept quiet. Her life sounds like a stove built from several different flames, yet every flame pointed upward.
