Lost Fintragh Fort and Cave

Fagan (Bk. 19, 15) recorded a 'Fort' of about 30yds in diameter with a clay and stone parapet. Under this was a 'cave' (DG097-010002-) of considerable length. A 30ft stretch, 3ft to 5ft wide and 2ft to 3ft high was then visible. This site could not be located during the course of the survey. The area consists of rough pasture land. A local fairy fort (ringfort/rath) with an associated cave, likely dating to the early medieval period, as indicated by its structural features and subterranean elements. Local tradition may associate the site with supernatural or fairy lore, common in such locations across Irish folklore.
