Little Tarrel Castle stands in Tarbat as a small L-plan house built in the mid 16th century, its vaulted kitchen and first-floor chamber still holding the shape of that earlier life. It later became a divided farm building when an external stair appeared and part of the ground floor was taken for farming, yet the old rooms did not disappear; they changed use. The missing date digit beneath the window keeps the house slightly unfinished in memory, as if time itself hesitated before writing the final number.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Little Tarrel Castle as Hut Circle (prehistoric)(possible). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
