Castle Island stands off North Ayrshire as a medieval tower house, its stones still marked by the age that built it. The sea may have hidden the castle from common sight, but it never stopped the island from keeping its shape. A person standing near the water could imagine the tower rising through mist, daring the tide to take what it had already refused.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Little Cumbrae Island, Castle Island, Castle as Tower House (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
