Lisheenna-caheragh

Children's burial ground

What is recorded here

Lisheenna-caheragh is a children's burial ground hidden inside an oval enclosure in County Galway. The name still points to a place where small bodies rested, yet no grave marker or ditch remains visible for a stranger to touch. Children may have played above forgotten bones while believing they ran through ordinary grass.
Within an oval enclosure (GA027-041----). Both the site name, correctly Lisín na Cafffach, and the td. name suggest the presence of a CBG. However, no visible surface trace survives in the interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. I - West Galway'. Compiled by Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
